Tanışma, kişi bildirme (koşaç -ım/-im/-um/-üm), olumsuzluk (değil), ve varoluş (var/yok).

Kendimi Tanıtıyorum

Kişi Eki (Bildirme Kipi) — İsim Cümlesinde "-ım/-im/-um/-üm"

Personal (copula) suffix on nominal sentences

Turkish has no separate word for English "am/is/are" — instead, a personal suffix is attached directly to the predicate. The suffix changes according to 4-way vowel harmony (-ım/-im/-um/-üm / -sın/-sin/-sun/-sün / -∅ / -ız/-iz/-uz/-üz / -sınız/-siniz/-sunuz/-sünüz / -lar/-ler), and a "y" glide is inserted between a vowel-final word and the suffix (öğrenci + yim = öğrenciyim, "I am a student").

ben-ım/-im/-um/-üm (-y-)öğrenciyim, Türküm
sen-sın/-sin/-sun/-sünöğrencisin, Türksün
o— (none)öğrenci, Türk
biz-ız/-iz/-uz/-üz (-y-)öğrenciyiz, Türküz
siz-sınız/-siniz/-sunuz/-sünüzöğrencisiniz, Türksünüz
onlar-lar/-leröğrenciler, Türkler

Sorular ve Cevaplar

Soru Eki "mı/mi/mu/mü"

Question particle mı/mi/mu/mü

The question particle used for yes/no questions harmonizes with the preceding word by 4-way vowel harmony, but is always written as a separate word: mı, mi, mu, mü. The personal suffix then attaches to the particle itself, not the predicate: öğrenci mi-yim? ("am I a student?"), öğrenci mi-sin? ("are you a student?"), öğrenci mi? ("is he/she a student?")

Ordinal numbers

Ordinal numbers ("first", "second", ...) are formed by adding "-(ı)ncı/-(i)nci/-(u)ncu/-(ü)ncü" to the number, following 4-way vowel harmony. If the number ends in a consonant, a harmony vowel is inserted first (bir + i + nci = birinci, "first"); some roots ending in p/ç/t/k soften (dört → dördüncü, "fourth"), though a few common exceptions don't (kaç → kaçıncı, "which number?").

Varoluş Cümlesi — "var" / "yok"

Existence: var (there is) / yok (there isn't)

"var" ("there is/are") and "yok" ("there isn't/aren't") are invariable words that state whether something exists; they never take personal endings. They usually appear with the locative case (-da/-de/-ta/-te): "Sınıfta öğrenci var" ("There is a student in the classroom"). They combine with the question particle: "Kalemin var mı?" ("Do you have a pen?"). "yok" already is the negative — "değil" is never used together with var/yok.
