Ünite 11: Sağlığım

My Health · A2

Eczanede/doktorda konuşma, hastalık ve tedavi sözcükleri.

Neresi Ağrıyor?

Vücut Bölümü + İyelik + "ağrımak"

Body part + possessive + "ağrımak" ("to hurt")

Saying a body part hurts in Turkish doesn't need a new suffix — just the RIGHT POSSESSIVE ENDING (Unit 3) on the body part, then "ağrımak" or "sızlamak" conjugated in the present continuous (Unit 2): "baş" (head) + "ım" (my) + "ağrıyor" (is hurting) = "Başım ağrıyor" ("My head hurts" — literally "my head is hurting"). This is simply two structures you already know (possessive + present continuous) combined.

baş + ımBaşım ağrıyor. My head hurts.
boğaz + ımBoğazım ağrıyor. My throat hurts.

Eczanede

Doktor/Eczacı Talimatlarında Emir Kipi

Using the imperative for doctor/pharmacist instructions

When a doctor or pharmacist gives instructions, they use the "siz" (2nd plural, polite) form of the imperative you learned in Unit 5: "Bu ilacı yemekten sonra alınız" (Take this medicine after eating), "Bol su içiniz" (Drink plenty of water), "Derin nefes alınız" (Take a deep breath). The negative works the same way: "Dozu artırmayınız" (Don't increase the dose).

içmekİçiniz.Drink (it).
dinlenmekDinleniniz.Rest.

İlaç Talimatlarında Edilgen + Geniş Zaman

Passive + aorist for medicine instructions

Medicine boxes and package inserts often combine Unit 10's passive voice with Unit 9's aorist: "Bu ilaç günde iki kez alınır" ("This medicine is taken twice a day"), "Yemekten sonra içilir" ("It's taken after eating"). This structure foregrounds the medicine itself rather than the patient — an objective, formal tone.

Şikayetimi Anlatıyorum

Bir Şikayeti Özetlemek — Öğrenilen Yapıların Bir Arada Kullanımı

Summarizing a complaint — combining structures you already know

When describing a complaint to a doctor or pharmacist, structures from many units work together: present continuous for symptoms ("öksürüyorum" — I'm coughing), past tense for when it started ("iki gün önce başladı" — it started two days ago), ability for what you can/can't do ("uyuyamıyorum" — I can't sleep, Unit 9), and "var/yok" for additional complaints ("ateşim de var" — I also have a fever). Without learning any new grammar rule, you can give a fluent explanation with structures you already know.
